“Being a beginner, I decided beforehand not to even attempt to make them turn out perfectly. In return, this, not pursuing perfectness gave me a joy of accepting everything as a great gift at the very moment of opening the kiln’s door.” – Ceramic Artist Yoshitomo Nara.
Ha, I am really getting somewhere with my cushion-for-that-one-chair from this pattern. And how I enjoy my first attempt at crocheting! Far from perfect but as I stated before: I do not suffer from perfectionism and I am thoroughly enjoying myself.
And those blocked Granny Squares look so pretty, especially on a dreary, rainy day;0) The hard part comes after this: putting it all together. I have a question for the experienced crocheter : is the single crochet the best method?
And really: how many lovely words can you find on one little card? (click on the photo to enlarge)
En werkelijk: hoeveel mooie woorden kan je op een klein kaartje vinden? (klik op de foto om t te vergroten)
Love and Liefs, Johanna.
Wow! You’ve done so much! And they all look so pretty together–sumptuously splendid, even! I hope you get advice from people who know what they’re doing –I couldn’t begin to answer your question.
But I love your compliment! Thank you, dear!
Your squares are so beautiful; I love the colours! Unfortunately, I don’t know how to crochet, although it’s been on my list of “things to learn” for years. I know someone out there will be able to help you out, though!
I’ve decided I’m going to finally take up knitting this winter – a co-worker of mine has offered to teach me. I’m so nervous that I will be a poor student, but I really want to try!
Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
Ha,I can give you a piece of advise…the advise I gave to all the students I taught knitting. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THE NEEDLES AND YARN! And than: first do the knitting very slowly: speed will come naturally when you have mastered the stitches. And invest in good natural yarn and a good pair of needles. It is very hard to knit with cheap acrylic yarn. Think of your garden skills: a tiny seed makes a beautiful plant…and now I sound like a Yoda from Star Wars;0) Enjoy your lessons in knitting in the long Canadian winter! Maybe you can blog aboutit? hugs from Ohio.
Its been so many years since I have done crochet, I do not know the answer. Your squares are so pretty and colorful 🙂 Annie
Thanks Annie, it is more fun than I expected it to be!
Using single crochet will create a thick border between your pieces. If you like that look, then it’s a good, fast way to join.
If you want something lacier, you might try one of these: http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/originals/59/d1/9e/59d19e82330b0d960828e2ff0078ec81.jpg
If you want to stitch them together so nothing shows, try this: http://www.lionbrand.com/faq/120.html
Good luck!
Thank you so much for the advise and links. That s really very helpful. I will study it over the weekend . Thanks for stepping by and your blog and cat are lovely!
I think it is right that you enjoy your project rather than stress about getting is absolutely perfect. It looks great from what I can see.
That is a great compliment coming from an accomplished crocheter! Thank you and have a lovely weekend!
I was going to give the exact advice as gossycrafts — I was saved a lot of research finding those great links! Your granny squares look beautiful. Your cushion will be lovely.
Thank you for the compliments, that is encouraging! I am putting the whole thing together now with the single crochet: the other options look great too but made the cushion too big for the one-chair ;0)
