Meanwhile…

So the 21st of June it all started finally: we got the key for our new house!

First painters and movers: I planned on making lots of photos. However; the painters were so good, they were already finished in two days. First day, I forgot my camera and the second day was just funny. There were about four painters, all from Kentucky talking at the speed of light with that lovely drawl and I still can’t make hardly any sense of it. When I showed up the next day, it was  unexpected for them and they looked rather sheepishly. I was confused because I could see no wrong doings what so ever. Then the bravest of them said: ” Sorry, ma’am, that ain’t no proper language to use in front of a lady!”  I said, that it was OK, apologies accepted. Of course, I had no clue and secretly, actually wanted to know what was said. (Oh, agony, I will never know!) It was funny and a bit awkward at the same time;0) So no pictures of my painting heroes who did such a WONDERFUL job.

Than about those movers. We always like to support local business, so we choose a local moving company. It turned out, hard working, good willing and kind hearted as the team was, we had more experience than them with moving;0)However, with my husband in the old house and me in the new and with firm directions and guidance, all came to a happy end. So no time for pictures there.

But here a few from poor Charley, who’s tail almost took a turn for the worst and to prevent her from biting she had to wear the ‘cone-of-shame’!

It is lovely settling down again. The house is everything we hoped for: so bright and spacious. And the garden is just too lovely for words. Here the view from my kitchen window.

And a new chandelier, for frolicking creatures.

En een nieuwe kroonluchter voor dartelende wezentjes.

Still waiting for the bookcases: my poor books are still in boxes.

A beautiful new park for daily walks!

And Charley’s tail has healed perfectly and here she is showing of her new  bandana (present of the daycare/groomer) matching the living room carpet.

And already a cozy spot in the kitchen for tea and book. Or even better, for company to chat with me, whilst cooking!

DSC_8277

Well, I must admit: in the past year, with all the changes, and the administrative hassle of an emigration and selling and leasing and buying houses , I sometimes felt like fainting Victorian style and been carried of by well dressed men to a nice rest-home. But mainly, it was all a great adventure and more than worth it!

Expect lots of chirping and yodeling about the house in upcoming posts….

Verwacht veel gejodel en gekir over t nieuwe huis in de volgende posts…

Love and Liefs, Johanna.

  1. Hi Johanna,
Congratulations as to the new house. Many happy days in there! And a fantastic park to walk in! Btw, you mention Kentucky painters. Did you move to Kentucky?
Poor Charley with that collar. I know how doggies feel with that. Our Buster was quite uncomfortable when he had wo weat that, but poor Sally [http://pitspersoenlichesblog.wordpress.com/2012/07/28/arme-sally/] was outright frightened. We had to take that thing off after just two days and simply watch her, if she’s ite herself or not. Luckily, she didn’t.
    Best regards from southern Texas,
    Pit

    • Thank you so much, Pit!
Cincinnati is still Ohio but it is build on the Ohio river which borders with Kentucky. Cincinnati Airport is actually in Kentucky . And a little to the west is Indiana. Its called Tri-State country.( I believe there are more of those) Technically Cincinnati, Ohio is Mid-West but the Southern influence is much more than I expected. A pleasant surprise though! I only have to master that Southern drawl and fair enough:lots of people here find it equally difficult to understand my sloppy mix of British/Canadian english with Dutch language habits;0)
Charley is most vain and relaxed dog I ever met! For some reason she likes wearing things: funny collars, ropes, etc. She did not mind that collar at all, good thing because she bit her wound and stitches when she would have the chance. I used to have Jack Russell terriers…no way they would wear a collar!
I have to pick up my son from bus station now but will read up on poor Sally.

      • Hi Johanna,
So it’s Cincinnati where you live now. Well, Cincinnati as well as those three states [Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana] are still on my bucket list of travel destinations here in the US. Maybe some day …
        Best regards from southern Texas,
        Pit

  2. Hi Johanna,

    big hug
    Dina

    • Thank you so much, Dina! I feel very happy here.
Charley is all healed and happy again. She thanks you for inquiring! I know it is a little confusing but She is a girl, her full name is Charlotta from the Mennonites. She doesn’t mind being called a boy, all attention is good attention in her opinion. Love, Johanna

  3. Thank you, Susan. Is you r daughter still there? I am picking up my son from the Grey Hound now, a surprise visit from Toronto. It is going to be a great 4th of July!
